Behind the Camera

A few more things about me that you might not know:

•I love photography, everything about photography, even the days when I'm working until 3am. I think I'm just addicted but you might have realized that by now.

•Floyd, my pup, is pretty much like my child. No really, I think he believes that he is a little human and that's ok, for the time being.

•I went to school for photography in Massachusetts, but couldn't stand living that far away from my family ( I have a really large family). So when I graduated I moved back to Missouri, maybe not my home town but close enough.

•I love music, almost as much as photography. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Black Keys are just a few of my favorite bands.

•I eventually plan on retiring to a beach, in Hawaii. Yes I have big dreams.

Maverick’s First Session • Columbia Missouri Portrait Photographer

Seventeen days into this new world and Maverick’s already gracing my blog with his adorable little face! Last week, right before I headed out of town for a week hiatus on the beach, I had to schedule in Jenny and Eric’s newborn session, for Maverick. He is absolutely as perfect as a little boy can be. I don’t think he was too excited for some of the different photo ideas we had in mind, but he eventually called it a day and fell asleep so we could do our thing. There were so many cute images to choose from but here are just a couple of my favorites. Congratulations Jenny and Eric, you have one adorable little man!

Lizzy and Sean : Next Up, Couple Session Plus Ruthie

I think I’ve photographed Lizzy and Sean more in the last year than almost any other client I have and I can only hope that they have had as much fun being in front of the camera as I have had being behind the camera. Well for the second half of their “engagement session but not really engagement session because they are married so more like couple session” we headed down to a baseball session to start things off. With their cute matching jerseys and shoes we were able to get some very fun images before we took off to the second half of their session downtown with their dog Ruthie. I think Ruthie was pretty worn out at the end but between Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream and getting to wonder  around city streets I’m sure she enjoyed the day as much as we did. Once again, Sean and Lizzy, you two are just wonderful together and I wish you much happiness in the future!

Summer State of Mind • Columbia Missouri Photographer

It’s summer and while most people are relaxing in the mid day summer sun, for a wedding photographer this time of the year means living by the words of a calendar, little sleep, and an abundance of caffeine! And as much as I love every bit of the craziness, there are some weeks when things just get a bit too much. For instance, this week. Having your phone and computer go down in the same week is not ideal, so to get away from it all I headed to the park with Floyd this afternoon. The park always just seems to slow life down a few notches, lets you take a breath and enjoy the little things, that are not broken :) . If you need a moment, take a walk at the park. It will do some good! Here’s a picture I took today, yup even while I’m relaxing I’m taking photos. It’s what I do.

Lizzy and Sean : Wedding Celebration • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

A few months ago I photographed Lizzy and Sean on a Christmas/Holiday themed engagement shoot before they sailed off to an intimate island wedding ceremony only a few months there after. Well of course family and friends wanted a chance to celebrate this wonderful couple, so they held a fabulous wedding celebration party at Les Bourgeois Vineyards in Rocheport Missouri. Along with a tasty dessert bar and an abundance of wine, the band was a hit and the guests danced all night long! To top off the night, a firework show went off late into the evening for some extra entertainment! I’m sure these two had an amazing time and I can only imagine how exciting the rest of their lives are going to be together. Congrats Lizzy and Sean!

Jeremy and Misty : Engagements • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

Jeremy and I go way back, ok not really way back, but sometimes it feels like it. Between meeting through mutual friends in this small world or freaking out even more when we found out that it was my older brother and his older sister that were dating, it seems like we have known each other for quite some time. So when I got the text that he was planning on proposing to Misty, I can’t lie, I did a little happy dance and then told him I better be his wedding photographer.

These two are absolutely made for each other, I don’t think there could be a better match for either of them if someone planned it. For their engagements, I met them up in St. Louis Missouri and we had a blast running around the area of Forest Park. Next we headed down to The Landing, where Jeremy proposed via carriage ride to Misty. Come on, how romantic is that ladies! Well here are a few of my favorites from the day and I can hardly wait for their wedding in the fall. Hopefully I can see through the tears to get a few good ones of their special day!

Corina and Patrick : The Wedding • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

I did not think I would be getting these up so soon with a wonderful visit to the oral surgeon this morning, but I guess sleeping during the day just does not seem to work for me, So lucky for you, a new blog post it is!

Corina and Patrick are the wonderful couple I met in Columbia Missouri last year! It was very easy to see that these two were just made for each other and after their wedding day, I think everyone can see that now! The day started off normal, family members running around setting everything up in the beautiful reception tent, Corina and Patrick starting the long process of preparing for the wedding festivities. About an hour before the wedding, a few dark clouds made there way to the wedding site and in a matter of 15 minutes the entire reception tent had fallen and everything inside destroyed. It was just devastating to see. My heart went out to the family and friends that spent the last day and half setting up the fabulous vases with blossoming flowers, table linens, and all topped off with chandeliers in the top of the tent. All of which had been ruined when the tent fell.

I know right now you are thinking this is one of those wedding day nightmares you have the night before, but unfortunately it actually happened. And thanks to the love of the family and friends surrounding Patrick and Corina they held it together, focused on the importance of the day and moved the reception to the Community center in an hours time. It was incredible to see so many people, my awesome second photographer Trischa included, come together to salvage plates, flowers, chairs, all to take down to the community center, to make Corina and Patrick’s day wonderful from there on out.

Congratulations Corina and Patrick, you two are one amazing pair. The strength you showed on your wedding day through all the trials it threw at you just makes my heart melt. I wish you nothing but the best and like they say rain is lucky on your wedding day, right?!

Ann and Shawn: The Wedding • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

Saturday Ann and Shawn became husband and wife and you could just feel the warmth and happiness throughout the entire day! Aside from a few storms that went through the area and a bit of a hair crisis that was quickly taken care of, the wedding day went like a breeze from beginning to end. Filled with many family members, military friends, and little ones running around, there seemed to be something going on at all times. Ann looked stunning the entire day and wore a smile on her face that I don’t think anyone could have wiped away. Congratulations Ann and Shawn and thank you for letting me be a part of your wonderful day!

Round Two with Lori and Drew • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

A few weeks back I posted Lori and Drew’s engagement session, the first half that is. About half way through the day the sky decided to open up and down came the rain. So we rescheduled the 2nd half of the session a few weeks later and of course we ran into rain, again. But this past weekend we were fortunate enough to get a beautiful sunny day with not one drop. Lori and Drew are big football fans, so we headed down to the JC Stadium in Jefferson city Missouri and had a fun football themed engagement session. Like I’ve said before these two make such an adorable couple and I’m very excited for the wedding in September!

Drive In Engagements • Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer

The old drive in theater in Macon, MO still remains off of highway 63 with it’s few sound boxes and run down merry-go-round and it was the perfect setting for Ann and Shawn’s engagements this week! From the rusted “Drive in Theater” sign at the front of the gate to the old concession stand, this place could not have felt more like ’60’s. And Ann and Shawn, these two are one fantastic match.  I am really looking forward to their wedding this weekend and can not wait to post more of this beautiful couple in the weeks to come!
